Description & Facts: What do we know about the city of Newport, Rhode Island? A lot. It was founded in 1639 by the English settlers and has become unique from the start on. Since 1641 it embraced the policy of liberty of conscience and religion. The city itself was very diverse in many way, religion included.
The first settlers that came from England arrived on Aquidneck Island. It was in 1636 and was followed by an estonishing women Anne Hutchinson who was basicaly kicked-out of Boston because of her religious beliefs. She had some followers who purchased Aquidneck Island which was later on renamed to Rhode Island.
The land these settlers inhabitated was previously used by the natives and thus "cleaned" and ready for use.
Newport today is a modern place and is unique in many ways. One of the uniques is seen in the history on the landscape and preserved architecture. It is regarded as one of the nicest and culturaly rich city in the Continental United States.
