Description & Facts: Arthur's Seat in Melbourne, Australia - named by John Murray, who was the first European to enter Port Phillip Bay in 1802 on the Lady Nelson. Born in Scotland, he thought the hill resembled a similar landmark in his hometown of Edinburgh. Later in the same year, Matthew Flinders was to climb its slopes. A track was first constructed in 1896 and a graded road was added in 1929. Today, Arthur's Seat road is popular with day trippers, and its many turns and scenic views makes for an enjoyable and interesting run.
