I am new to this forum so please be easy on me Wink ...

I traveled all over the world and Africa is one of the places I have never been too. I am looking to change that in the near future.

I am setting aside 4-6 months to travel to Africa and I have a couple of questions that someone that has allready been there might be able to answer.

The departure date will be in mid December or early January at the latest. I am thinking of flying into Nairobi and working my way down through Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa and then working my way up back to Nairobi through Namibia, Botswana and Zambia.

I am obviously interested in the safaris and nature but I also plan on hanging out on the beach in Mozambique and do some diving.

Is this a good plan ? I am mostly concerned about the weather since I understand that in this period is the rainy season. From the research I have done so far it looks like there is not too much rain in Kenya and Tanzania in December/January and hopefully by the time I make it to South Africa the rain will be gone there too.

I have a couple of more questions.

1. On some site I read that Serengeti is closed until March or so. Is that true ? On other sites I could not find information that confirms this.

2. I understand that the best time to visit in order to see the migration is June/August and the migration is a phenomenon that occurs around Serengeti. Is there a way to see this phenomenon in December/January ?

3. Can anyone recommend dive sites in Eastern/Southern Africa ?

4. I also plan to go to Egypt. Does anyone know what is the cheapest way to fly from Eastern/Southern Africa to Cairo ? For example is it better to fly out of Nairobi or out of Johannesburg ?

5. What is the guide book that you guys are using ? How do you like it ? What guide book should I get for the areas that I will be visiting ?
